About Pratima Ghosh Dastidar

Pratima Ghosh Dastidar was born in 16.11.1944 and spent her early years in Asansol, a bustling town known for its rich cultural heritage and industrial prominence. From a young age, Pratima exhibited a keen interest in the intricacies of science and mathematics. She pursued her education at ManiMala Girls High School, where her passion for these subjects only deepened under the guidance of her dedicated teachers.

After completing her studies, Pratima embarked on a career in education, eager to impart her knowledge and inspire a new generation of students. Her first teaching position was at Sailabala Balika Vidyalaya (Churulia) in 1967 where she taught science subjects. Her commitment to her students and her ability to make complex concepts accessible and engaging quickly earned her the respect and admiration of both her colleagues and students.

Seeking new challenges and opportunities, Pratima later moved to Santinagar VidyaMandir for Girls (Burnpur) in 1975, where she continued to teach science and mathematics. Her teaching methods were innovative, and she was known for her patience and the personal attention she gave to each of her students. Her classrooms were always lively with discussions, experiments, and a genuine excitement for learning.

Throughout her career, Pratima’s dedication to education never wavered. She saw teaching as more than just a job; it was her life’s mission. She took pride in the success of her students, many of whom went on to pursue careers in science and engineering, inspired by her enthusiasm and support.

In 2004, after a fulfilling and impactful career, Pratima retired. Her retirement was celebrated by her peers and students, who remembered her as a teacher who made a lasting difference in their lives. Tragically, Pratima passed away in 17.5.2021 due to complications from a COVID-19 infection. Her death was a significant loss to the community, but her legacy lives on through the countless students she inspired and the positive impact she had on the field of education. Pratima Ghosh Dastidar’s life was a testament to the power of dedication, passion, and the profound influence a committed teacher can have on the world.
